Haute Galore

Tell a story with your style.

What stylish young woman out there in the world isn’t thinking about finding the perfect coat for this coming autumn?  So many options to choose from, and I figure, why not get this blog started off right by talking about one of my favorite subjects – coats.  More specifically – military-inspired fall coats!  And we can’t start talking about one of Fall 2010’s biggest trends without mentioning the man behind the most beautiful line of military-inspired outerwear that has come out since…  I don’t know, the Revolutionary War?

To all of you out there who might happen upon my little patch of digital mindspace, please give him a round of applause: The maven of military couture himself, Christopher Bailey.  Mr. Bailey, what a genius you are, mon frère!  The best thing to happen to Burberry since the Haymarket Check.

So, yes, military looks are still in fashion, but a lot less gawdy, and I think we have none other than that wonderful man to whom we should be paying our thanks (if not our hard-earned money).

Here are some of my favorites from his work for Burberry Prorsum’s Fall 2010 ready-to-wear line…

Doeskin Wool Cropped Military Jacket ($1,995 USD)

Wool Felt Parade Jacket ($1,795 USD)

Zip Waist Wool Felt Peacoat ($2,495 USD)

And the coup de grâce of all navy peacoats (seriously, I envision the rest of them out there in the world committing seppuku after this one):

Cadet Wool Felt Coat with Tulle Hemline ($3,595 USD)

Bravo!  Bravo!  Right?!  Well, his work is exquisite, but if you are like most young women out there, there’s no way you’re going to be able to drop $3600 on a coat unless you plan on paying off credit card debt for the next decade…  So, the next question is: Where can you find some great coats which manifest this magnificent fall trend for a fraction of the price?  Let me try and help you with that…

I’ve scoured the interweb for some great military-inspired jackets and coats…  Some a bit pricier than others.  But by all means, please have a look at my findings in order from cheapest (yay!) to most expensive (blah).

Asos Button Corset Waist Mac ($117.95 USD)

Asos Military Button Peacoat ($126.38 USD)

TopShop Tall Double-Breasted Coat ($160 USD)

TopShop Belted Military Coat ($160 USD)

TopShop Double-Breasted Military Coat ($170 USD)

Idra Cream Confection Coat ($178 USD)

TopShop Ultimate Military Cape ($190 USD)

Kenneth Cole Reaction Asymmetrical Zip Coat ($210 USD)

Sass & Bide Proud Heart Jacket ($220 USD)

Karen Millen Sharp Military Jacket ($547.63 USD)

Leifsdottir Iberia Coat ($548 USD)

McGinn Nicola Coat ($560 USD)

Smythe Cadet Jacket ($595 USD)

Well, those are some of my favorites from what I’ve come across.  Hope there’s something out there for you to enjoy!
